How to Build a Book Nook — Step-by-Step Assembly Guide

Before You Start — What You'll Need

  • Your DIY book nook kit (all pieces included)
  • Craft glue (white PVA or wood glue recommended)
  • Tweezers for small parts
  • Small scissors or craft knife
  • AAA batteries (for LED module)
  • Clean, flat workspace with good lighting

Step 1: Unbox and Inventory

Lay out all pieces on a clean surface. Check the parts list against the instruction booklet. Group similar pieces together — walls, props, lighting components.

Step 2: Build the Structure

Start with the base and walls. Pixie Curio kits use pre-cut plywood that fits together precisely. Apply a small amount of glue to each joint — less is more. Allow each section to dry for 5–10 minutes before moving on.

Step 3: Insert the Lighting

Route the LED wire through the pre-drilled holes before attaching the ceiling or roof. Test the lights with batteries before securing them in place. This is easier to fix now than after assembly.

Step 4: Add Interior Details

Now comes the fun part. Place miniature props — books, cups, figurines, signage — following the layout in the instructions. Use tweezers for tiny pieces. Work from back to front so you don't block yourself.

Step 5: Final Assembly and Test

Attach the final walls or roof. Turn on the LED to check the glow. Make any small adjustments to prop placement. Let the kit fully dry before placing it on your shelf.

Pro Tips

  • Don't rush: Most kits take 3–8 hours. Enjoy the process.
  • Use proper glue: PVA dries clear and holds wood best.
  • Work in sections: Complete one area before starting the next.
  • Take breaks: Your hands and eyes will thank you.
